Experimental confirmation of breach of the basic postulate of Statistical Physics

Vladimir V. Savukov

ABSTRACT

In the course of computer modeling of the most probable stationary macrostates of non-ergodic closed systems, a forecast was obtained about the existence of limits of applicability of the basic axiomatic postulate of statistical physics, known as the Principle of Equiprobability of each realizable microstate. Moreover, for such systems, thermodynamic equilibrium is no longer the only permissible stationary state. The possibility of other most probable macrostates is predicted, which are characterized by the presence of a stable anisotropy of the polarization parameters of thermal radiation filling these systems. The article presents successful results of direct experimental verification of the above prognosis on a real physical installation. Important regularities inherent in the used mathematical model are noted.

Experimental confirmation of the negentropic character of the diffraction polarization of diffuse radiation

Vladimir V. Savukov

ABSTRACT

In the course of analyzing the axiomatic principles on which statistical physics is based, the assumption of the limited correctness of the postulate that all allowable microstates of a closed system are equally probable was checked. This paper reports the results of a study of a quasi-equivalent system within which isotropic radiation interacts with a phase diffraction grating. A simulated computer model of such interaction showed that anisotropic polarization must arise in the diffracted radiation, which reduces the Boltzmann entropy of the entire system and allows an external observer to obtain information on the grating’s surface topology. This prediction was confirmed when it was experimentally checked directly on actual apparatus.

Anisotropic polarization, which is forecasted as a consequence of diffraction of blackbody radiation on the reflective phase grating with an ideal conductivity

Vladimir V. Savukov

ABSTRACT

In the course of an analysis of axiomatic principles lying in the basis of Statistical Mechanics, the veracity of the postulate of equiprobability of all isoenergetic microstates of a closed system was verified. In this paper, we report the results of numerical simulation of the interaction of the equilibrium thermal radiation blackbody with a reflective phase grating, which has an ideal conductivity. About cases appearance of the anisotropy of polarization parameters inside a closed volume initially homogeneous blackbody radiation were reported, which are formally leading to a reduction of Boltzmann's entropy of this radiation due to of deviation from Gibbs's microcanonical distribution. It probably can be caused by a broken continuity of the phase trajectories of the photons at a diffraction, which makes the under consideration physical system is nonergodic.

Simulation of scattering of diffuse photons gas on a diffraction grating by Monte-Carlo method

Vladimir V. Savukov, Igor V. Golubenko

ABSTRACT

Considering some special questions of statistical physics requires accurate numerical solution of a diffraction problem. A computer algorithm which can be used as an effective instrument for calculations of the diffraction parameters in theoretical investigation of complex optical systems was elaborated. The algorithm is based on Chandezon C‑method in application to bare metallic relief crossed gratings. Calculations for arbitrary diffusive incident field on crossed gratings of sinusoidal profile were carried out. When there are several diffraction elements it is possible to use the algorithm for calculation of the characteristics of a resulting stationary radiation field.
